Although online registration is closed, you can still register for the free self-guided tour at one of nine walk-in registration sites open on the day of the tour.

To be notified when registration for the 2013 tour opens, complete the 2013 tour notification form.

Walk-in registration—May 6th tour

Walk-in registration on the day of the tour, starting at 10:00 am, is at the gardens listed below.

Walk-in registrants will be asked to provide their names and e-mail addresses; then they will given a printed garden guide which contains the garden addresses and directions. There are a limited number of guides at each of these special walk-in registration gardens; please arrive early to ensure there are still guides available. One guide will be provided for each group.

Walk-in registration sites are open from 10:00 – 5:00 on Sunday, May 6, 2012. Please do not visit any of these locations to request a guide before the day of the tour.

Walk-in Registration Sites

Berkeley

Glen Schneider’s garden

Directions:

From I-80 take the University Ave. exit east, toward the hills, and continue 1.7 miles. Turn right on California St. and go 0.3 miles.

Castro Valley

Mary Cooper’s garden

18741 Brickell Way, Castro Valley

Directions:

From I-580 take the Redwood Rd. exit toward Castro Valley. Turn left at Redwood Rd. and continue 1.3 miles. Turn right at 7 Hills Rd. and go .3 miles. Turn left at Brickell Way and continue .1 mile. The house is on the left.

Concord

Directions:

Coming from the west on Hwy. 4 take exit 15A to merge onto Hwy. 242 toward Oakland/Concord and go 1 mile. Take exit 2 for Solano Way/Grant St. and continue .2 miles. Turn left onto Grant St./Solano Way and follow Grant St. for .5 miles. Continue onto East St. and go .7 miles. Take a slight left onto Clayton Rd. and go .7 miles.*

Coming from Walnut Creek on I-680 north take Hwy. 242 toward Concord-Pittsburg and continue .7 miles. Take exit 1 for Clayton Rd. toward Concord and go .3 miles. Turn right onto Clayton Rd. and go 1.8 miles.

*Turn left onto Grove Way and go 350 feet, then take the first right onto El Monte Drive and go .2 miles.

El Cerrito

Directions:

Coming from either the north or south on I-80, exit at Central Ave. and turn east, toward the hills. Turn left at San Pablo Ave. and continue .4 miles. Turn right onto Stockton and go .3 miles. Turn right at Everett. The house is on your right.

Lafayette

Directions:

Coming from Oakland take CA-24 toward Walnut Creek. Exit at Oak Hill Rd. Turn right on Oak Hill. Take the first left onto Mt. Diablo Blvd. Take the first right onto Moraga Rd.*

From Walnut Creek take CA-24 toward Oakland. Take exit 14 for Pleasant Hill Rd. South (stay in the left lane) toward Mt. Diablo Blvd. Turn right onto Mt. Diablo Blvd. toward downtown Lafayette. Turn left at Moraga Rd.

* Continue .4 miles and turn left onto St. Mary’s Rd. Take the first right onto Solana Dr.

Livermore

Directions:

From I-580 take the Vasco Rd. exit north, toward Brentwood.  (If coming from the west keep left at the fork and go over the freeway.) Merge onto N. Vasco Rd. and continue 1.2 miles. Turn right at Garaventa Ranch Rd. and go .4 miles. At the stop sign turn left at Altamont Creek Dr. and go .2 miles.  Look for the two-story yellow house at the corner of Winding Stream Dr. and Altamont Creek Dr.  Please park on Altamont Creek Dr.

Oakland

Directions:

Coming from either direction on Hwy. 13 exit at Broadway Terr. and go west, toward the Bay. As you start to head downhill, take the third left onto Florence, and the second right onto Hermosa.

Parking
If parking on Hermosa is tight, take a left turn at Joe’s house, go downhill onto Marguerite, and park on Marguerite or Mandalay; this will allow you to walk past Hillcrest Elementary School’s garden on the way to Holly and Joe’s.

Pleasanton

Ward and Pat Belding’s garden

Directions:

Coming from the west take I-580 east, exit at Foothill to the right (south), and continue 1.7 miles. Turn left at Highland Oaks Dr. and go .2 miles.

Coming from Walnut Creek and points north, take I-680 south. Take exit 29 right (west) toward Stoneridge Dr. and go .6 miles. Turn left at Foothill Rd. and continue .8 miles. Turn left at Highland Oaks Dr. and go .2 miles.

Richmond

Directions:

Coming from Berkeley on I-80 take the San Pablo Avenue exit; at the end of the exit turn right onto San Pablo Ave.  At the first traffic light turn right onto Barrett Avenue*.

Coming from the Pinole on I-80 take the San Pablo Ave. exit; at the end of the exit turn right onto Barrett Avenue*.

*Continue down Barrett to 31st Street. Turn right onto 31st Street and go one block to Roosevelt Avenue.  The house is on the corner of Roosevelt and 31st.

Guest Etiquette

  • Each person who enters a garden must turn in a ticket. Tickets are found in the back of the garden guide.
  • The tour starts at the garden of your choice at 10 am. Visit as many gardens as you like before 5 pm. Do not arrive early or after 5 pm. We recommend selecting the gardens you would like to visit by reviewing the garden descriptions and talks before setting out for the day. You can plan your route using mapquest.com or maps.google.com.
  • Please follow standard parking etiquette—do not block driveways or double park. Watch for special parking instructions at select gardens.
  • Children must be closely supervised by an accompanying adult. Strollers are not permitted in the gardens.
  • Stay on marked paths and wear sturdy shoes.
  • Do not pick flowers, fruits or vegetables. Do not take cuttings.
  • Restroom facilities are available at most of the public gardens. No restroom facilities are available at the home gardens.
  • Smoking is not permitted.
  • Leave pets at home.
