You can still register for the free self-guided tour on Sunday, May 1 at one of nine walk-in registration sites open on the day of the tour. However, online registration is closed. To be notified when registration for the 2012 tour opens, complete the 2012 tour notification form.

Walk-in registration—May 1st tour

Walk-in registration on the day of the tour, starting at 10:00 am, is at nine gardens listed below.

Walk-in registrants will be asked to provide their names and e-mail addresses; then they will given a printed garden guide which contains the garden addresses and directions. There are a limited number of guides at each of these special walk-in registration gardens; please arrive early to ensure there are still guides available. One guide will be provided for each group.

Walk-in registration sites are open from 10:00 – 5:00 on Sunday, May 1, 2011. Please do not visit any of these locations to request a guide before the day of the tour.

Berkeley

Schoolhouse Creek Common

corner of Virginia and Curtis Streets

Directions:

From northbound or southbound on I-80 exit at University, head toward the hills, and continue .8 miles. Turn left at San Pablo Ave. and go .3 miles. Turn right onto Virginia and go .2 miles. Schoolhouse Creek Common is at the corner of Curtis and Virginia.

El Cerrito

Directions:

Coming from either the north or south on I-80 exit at Central Ave. and turn east, toward the hills. Turn left at San Pablo Ave. and continue .4 miles. Turn right onto Stockton and go .3 miles. Turn right at Everett. The house is on your right.

Fremont

Directions:

Heading north or south on I-880 take the Decoto Rd. exit in Fremont. Turn east (toward the hills) and make the first right turn onto Cabrillo. Stay on Cabrillo for about 8 blocks (past Patterson Elementary School). Make a left on Bianca. The house is on the left.

Livermore

Directions:

From I-580 take the Vasco Rd. exit north, toward Brentwood. (If coming from the west keep left at the fork and go over the freeway). Merge onto N. Vasco Rd. and continue 1.2 miles. Turn right at Garaventa Ranch Rd. and go .4 miles. At the stop sign turn left at Altamont Creek Dr. and go .2 miles. Look for the two story yellow house at the corner of Winding Stream Dr. and Altamont Creek Dr.

Martinez

Directions:

Coming from the west on Highway 4 take the Alhambra Ave. exit toward Martinez and turn left at Alhambra Ave.  Continue 1.4 miles. Turn right at Brown St. and continue 0.6 miles to the end of the cul-de-sac.

Coming from Walnut Creek take I-680 north. Exit at Pacheco Blvd. (exit 54) and continue 2.6 miles.  Turn right at Brown St and go 0.1 mile.

Moraga

57 Corliss Drive, Moraga

Directions:

From Walnut Creek take Hwy 24 West. Take the Central Lafayette/Moraga Exit and get into the right lane. Turn right at each of the first two stop lights and continue in the right lane 0.3 miles down to Mount Diablo Road in central Lafayette.  Turn right onto Mount Diablo Road and immediately get into the left lane to be able to make a left turn at the next intersection. At that intersection, turn left onto Moraga Road and stay on it for 3.6 miles. Turn right on Corliss Dr. and go 1.0 mile to number 57 (on your right).

From Berkeley and Oakland take Hwy 24 East. Take the Orinda/Moraga Exit and turn right onto Camino Pablo at the first stoplight. Camino Pablo soon becomes Moraga Way. Continue on Moraga Way for 3.6 miles. Turn left on Hardie Drive and go 0.4 miles. Turn left on Woodside Dr. and go 0.2 miles. Turn left on Corliss Drive.  Number 57 is the fourth house on your right.

Oakland

Directions:

From the north take I-580 east and exit at the first off ramp, which is MacArthur Blvd. Continue .6 miles on MacArthur. Turn left onto Market St. and go .9 miles. Turn right on 56th St.

From the south take CA-24 east, exit onto Martin Luther King Jr. Way, and continue 1.3 miles. Turn left on 56th St. and go .2 miles.

Pleasanton

Directions:

Coming from the west take I-580 east, exit at Foothill to the right (south), and continue 1.7 miles. Turn left at Highland Oaks Dr. and go .2 miles.

Coming from Walnut Creek and points north, take I-680 south. Take exit 29 right (west) toward Stoneridge Dr. and go .6 miles. Turn left at Foothill Rd. and continue .8 miles. Turn left at Highland Oaks Dr. and go .2 miles.

Richmond

Directions:

Coming from Berkeley on I-80 take the San Pablo Avenue exit; at the end of the exit turn right onto San Pablo Ave.  At the first traffic light turn right onto Barrett Avenue*.

Coming from the Pinole on I-80 take the San Pablo Ave. exit; at the end of the exit turn right onto Barrett Avenue*.

*Continue down Barrett to 31st Street. Turn right onto 31st Street and go one block to Roosevelt Avenue.  The house is on the corner of Roosevelt and 31st.

Walnut Creek

Directions:

Northbound on Hwy I-680 or eastbound on Hwy. 24 take the Ygnacio Valley Rd. offramp and get in the far left lane. Make a U-turn and proceed south on Oakland Blvd.*

Southbound on Hwy I-680 take the North Main St. offramp. Go south on North Main St. and merge onto California Blvd. Turn right on Ygnacio Valley Rd. Turn left at the next light, which is Oakland Blvd.

*At the first stop sign, turn right onto the Oakvale Rd. freeway overcrossing.
Turn right at Terrace Rd., right on Hilltop Crescent, and left onto Rosemont Ct.

Guest Etiquette

  • Each person who enters a garden must turn in a ticket. Tickets are found in the back of the garden guide.
  • The tour starts at the garden of your choice at 10 am. Visit as many gardens as you like before 5 pm. Do not arrive early or after 5 pm. We recommend selecting the gardens you would like to visit by reviewing the garden descriptions and talks before setting out for the day. You can plan your route using mapquest.com or maps.google.com.
  • Please follow standard parking etiquette—do not block driveways or double park. Watch for special parking instructions at select gardens.
  • Children must be closely supervised by an accompanying adult. Strollers are not permitted in the gardens.
  • Stay on marked paths and wear sturdy shoes.
  • Do not pick flowers, fruits or vegetables. Do not take cuttings.
  • Restroom facilities are available at most of the public gardens. No restroom facilities are available at the home gardens.
  • Smoking is not permitted.
  • Leave pets at home.
